A tribute to my Grandmother, Gretta Grindhaus. In her 20’s, she worked at her family’s slaughter house in Germany. She had a vindictive temper which became apparent when she was caught shoving the pieces of her unfaithful beau into a meat grinder. The corpse of his mistress was hanging from a ceiling hook in the cooler. Gretta was sentenced to an insane asylum from which she later escaped. They never caught her. It is family lore that she fled to the United States where she started a family. When she died, old newspaper clippings about the murders and subsequent incarceration were found in an old trunk in her attic. Photos in the newspaper clippings reveal a disturbing family resemblance… |
